Update: “The woman who died was 55-year-old Darla Sue Farnell of Tahoe City, said Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Dena Erwin. The injured man is 70-year-old Ray Richard Farnell also of Tahoe City.” (Source: https://www.news10.net/).

“One woman has been killed in the plane crash of a small plane in Placer County, and there is one survivor. A report came in of a downed plane east of the Truckee-Tahoe Airport about 11AM Monday. Nevada County deputies searched with the help of a Care Flight helicopter crew; the wreckage was finally found by a California Highway Patrol pilot in adjoining Placer County in the woods off Highway 267. The wreckage is about six miles south-southeast of the Truckee Tahoe Airport in heavy woods in the Juniper Creek area, according to Placer Sheriff Lt. John Weaber. The plane is single-engine; further information hasn’t been released, including where it was headed or where it originated. Rescue crews on snowmobilers pulled the survivor from the wreckage and have taken him to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for treatment; he was in critical condition when pulled from the wreckage. “Rescuers say they’ve found one survivor in the wreckage of a single-engine plane that crashed in California a few miles from the Truckee Tahoe Airport. Placer County sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Ausnow says the exact condition of the survivor was unknown, and it was unclear whether anyone else had been on the plane when it crashed Monday. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer described the aircraft as a Piper PA-46 Malibu. Ausnow says it went down near Martis Peak in a rugged area about six miles southeast of the airport. It was unknown why the plane crashed or where it was headed.
