Customs helicopter hard landing near Texas border checkpoint injures three

“Authorities are investigating what caused a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) helicopter to go down near Falfurrias. The CBP Air & Marine helicopter went down in the La Copa Ranch just southwest of the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint around 8:10 a.m. Friday. CBP officials said two air interdiction agents and one Border Patrol agent were aboard the AS-350 helicopter at the time. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in the brush. All three people aboard the helicopter were injured and airlifted to the McAllen Medical Center where they were listed in stable condition. CBP officials said the three received non-life-threatening injuries. U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials said they will work with CBP to investigate what happened. FAA officials told Action 4 News that there was engine fire moments before the helicopter went down. It’s not clear why the helicopter was patrolling the area or if the mission played a role but the incident remains under investigation.” (Source: https://www.valleycentral.com/).

“A viewer out hunting on the ranch tells KRIS 6 News shortly before dawn about 20 illegal immigrants were spotted from a deer blind. The hunter called Border Patrol. Agents followed paths from the ground and also used a helicopter to search from the sky. According to the hunter, the helicopter was attempting to land when the winds shifted directions, which he says caused the crash. Border Patrol agents on the ranch told him the crash caused minor injuries, a broken arm and broken nose. Border Patrol issued this statement Friday afternoon.” (Source: https://www.kristv.com/).
